Selecting a Cover Image for Your Videos

Cover images let your viewers get a quick preview of your video. Use a Gallery photo from your profile or learn how to select the thumbnail image from your YouTube video.

Option 1 (Easy) - Upload an image from your files

To add a cover image to your videos:

  1. Navigate to your profile.

  2. Click Edit/Add Media.

  3. Click Add Video or select the video you'd like to edit and click Edit.

  4. Click Upload Cover Image.

  5. Select an image from your files.

    • We recommend picking a photo that gives viewers a preview of the video or selecting a press photo.​

  6. Crop the image.​

  7. Click Crop.

  8. Continuing editing the video.

Option 2 (Medium) - Use the thumbnail image from your YouTube video

To add the YouTube thumbnail image to your video:

  1. Navigate to the URL of your YouTube video.

  2. Right click on the page.

  3. Select View Page Source.

  4. Open the Find window (Command-F on a Mac)

  5. Search for image_src

  6. Click on the link. 

  7. Save the image to your computer.

  8. Follow the same steps from above.
